one other suggestion, due to his GPIO slot and his " microcomputing power ablility " Raspberry PI is second most used Microcontroler sometime with arduino .
implementing XY remote for RASPBERRY PI remote compatibility with Python control  would be also very usefull for deep remote controle such as home functions , garden function, etc ...

RASPBERRY PI can open web servers and use other things for remote control. Almost any for Linux that exist. RemoteXY helps small boards.
