Change select by software

Is there a way to change the select by software.

I mean this doesn't work, but is there a way to do it somehow?

if(button_1==1){
  select_1=0;                     // reset select to starting value
  }

Basically I want to used the select to change which variable I assign an RGB value to before sending the colors to a function.  After sending to the function I want to be able to reset the select to the first position
