Topic: Need help with circuit with ESP8266 01

I did a project folowing this guys's circuit (hardware serial) https://youtu.be/KCGlOvU8M3E?t=93 , but he did not use any resistor like https://remotexy.com/en/help/esp8266/ shows with ground and rx of esp in the last image. I did it like him, and works fine, but i think its because i dont have any data going back to my phone (indications).

I guess if i want to use indications, i'll need to do it like in the image. Or i really dont need the resistors?

Also without bidirectional communication, it could be dangerous to link the ESP01 3,3v input with the Uno 5V output. But it doesn't damage the ESP in most cases… in most cases only…. thus, in the others cases… For a good reliability of the communication, a voltage bridge has to be used between Uno TX and ESP RX
