Topic: Terrace lighting with solar panels + Arduino + RemoteXY

Hi guys
let me present you my solar installation for my terrace illumination consisting of :

  • Solar panels (2x 20W)

  • 12V Battery (12A.h or more)

  • 10W LED (4x)

  • Battery Charger

  • 12V relay

  • Arduino Leonardo

  • brightness sensor (photo cell)

  • WIFI Module ESP8266

  • real time module DS3231

  • current sensor ACS712

  • DC-DC converter (12V->9V)

  • and of course a RemoteXY INterface to control and watch the system.

Nice project, which hw do you use to charge the battery with solar panels?

A small DC-DC charger dedicated for solar panel system.

Wow, that's a great setup. The best part is that you can control and keep an eye on everything using the RemoteXY interface. Btw, what do you think about solar panels dublin? I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Re: Terrace lighting with solar panels + Arduino + RemoteXY

You've picked some good stuff, like the Arduino and ESP8266. Just thinking about those 10W LEDs you mentioned - make sure they're not too bright or too dim for your space. Sometimes, using LED strips can give you a nicer light without using too much power.

Also, that current sensor and the DC-DC converter you're using are smart choices, but just make sure they fit well with your setup so you don't lose any power you don't need to.

For the battery, bigger is usually better because it means your lights won't run out too quick, especially on days when the sun doesn't shine as much.

On this website, you will find articles and guides for all your chosen parts + some other settings from which you can inspire.
